HILBERT'S SIXTEENTH AND RELATED PROBLEMS
IN
DYNAMICS, GEOMETRY AND ANALYSIS

(in honor of the 60th anniversary of Yulij Sergeevich Ilyashenko)

December 26-29, 2003
The Independent University of Moscow,
Moscow

The second part of Hilbert's 16th problem deals with limit cycles of planar polynomial vector fields. The statement of the problem is the following. What can be said about the number of limit cycles? Is it true that it is bounded from above by a constant depending only on the degrees of the components of the field?

This problem had inspired significant progress in bifurcation theory, normal forms, foliations and various topics in algebraic geometry.

The conference will focus on the present state of Hilbert's 16th problem and recent advances in the related fields. The program comprises invited lectures on selected topics as well as informal working sessions. One of the sessions is planned as a survey of unsolved problems, especially aiming at young researchers.

Program Committee: V.I.Arnold (chairman), A.A.Bolibruch, A.A.Glutsyuk, R.Roussarie, C.Rousseau, Ya.G.Sinai, S.Yu.Yakovenko.

Organizing Committee: A.G.Khovanskii (chairman), D.V.Anosov, V.V.Furin, V.Y.Kaloshin, S.K.Lando.
