Reconstruction of fields from quotients of their absolute Galois groups (after Bogomolov--Tschinkel)

Abstract

To a given field K one can associate some "structure", e.g., the isomorphism class of the automorphism group of a "universal" extension of K, possibly endowed with additional data. Then the natural question arises, whether the field K can be reconstructed from the associated "structure"? I am going to give a survey of possible settings, where this kind of questions admits a precise meaning, with emphasis on the work of Fedor Bogomolov and Yuri Tschinkel on geometric function fields.
